Playing catch up

Hello everyone, Im so sorry its been a while since I've last posted. Things are just crazy down here! I leave my room at 6:45am every morning and usually don't get back until 10 or 11pm at best. Its been a weird past 4 days in that it has rained everyday, which usually I would be excited about because it cools everything down and fills up the cisterns (collects rain water so we can shower and use the toilet), but on flip side of that we don't have a dryer because electricity is 4 times as much as it is in the States, so my clothes have been hanging in the rain for 4 days now. Work has been going good, were building new houses so the deaf families can move out of the apartments and into their own place. The last team that was here was a bigger group of 29ish people from Illinois, Missouri, and Michigan and most of them were my age so it was a lot of fun. We played so many games, card tricks, and just hung out and talked. It was very sad to see them go, but its apart of the job. If any of *you guys* are reading this, thank you for your time here at JDV and in Jamaica, and thank you for accepting me as if I was apart of your team. This week we have two teams here, the first is from Conyers, Georgia and the other is a mix from Knoxville, TN and Pittsburg, PA. Its mostly groups of families which is nice because it makes me feel as if I have family here in Jamaica and I'm not missing my family at home as much. This week I'm going to Kingston, which is the capital and going to visit the deaf school there and visit the business they have started. So it is called "Deaf Can Coffee" it got that name because many times people say the deaf can't do a lot of things and can't work and can't learn, but they want to prove that deaf CAN do everything any hearing person can do. Also it is incredible coffee. Also while I'm down in Kingston were going to Devin House I Scream, which was rated like the #4 best ice cream in the world. So that will be a fun and eventful day. Then we are coming back to Mandeville and doing some things in the community. I have a few photos that I will post but I've done a poor job of taking pictures. I will work on that and try to do a better job I promise.

  1. Hey, man. Thanks for the update. I saw a video someone from the last group posted of a guy eating a bug. Too funny. You seemed to enjoy making that happen. Haha. Hope you don't start to mold as another tropical storm is brewing down there. Stay safe!!!! Love you so much. Mom
